Food Distribution every Tuesday 11:00-1:00

At West Avenue Compassion, we are redefining what community service means in San Antonio.

Our model is more than charity — it’s collaboration. We believe that every member of this community has something to give and something to gain, and that true impact happens when we work with our community, not merely for it. We are leading the way by:
We begin by meeting immediate needs with empathy, care, compassion, and respect; because dignity starts with being seen and valued.
Together with our neighbors, we uncover the strengths within our community. The strengths that we then leverage to assist our community in building stronger pathways to success. Our volunteers and partners work alongside neighbors; not just to offer help, but to create opportunities for everyone to contribute and shape their own futures.
We come together around:
Join us in building a community of shared strength and possibility. We’re not just serving; we’re growing, learning, and thriving together.
The WAC Community Council; a circle of neighbors who care deeply about our shared community and want to help shape its future, meets on the first Tuesday of each month, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in Classroom 2 to explore community needs, highlight our local strengths, and imagine new ways to build on the talents and resources already within our community. Membership is open to anyone actively involved in WAC programs or community projects — because every voice, skill, and perspective adds value

Each month, more than 10,000 of our neighbors come together through our food programs; sharing, serving, and ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.
Through our partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank and the dedication of local volunteers, we make healthy food accessible to all, while fostering connection, dignity, and care.

Every contribution strengthens our community. Your donation helps neighbors support one another, meeting local needs and building a stronger, more connected future together.
When we each give what we can (time, resources, or encouragement) we create lasting change from within our own community.

Our Community Resource Center is a place where neighbors connect, share knowledge, and discover local resources.
Together, we help find the right support, at the right time; empowering each person to take the next step toward stability, growth, and independence.

The Community Service Network is a gathering place for individuals, organizations, and local leaders who share a common purpose: strengthening our community from the inside out.
Each participant brings unique gifts, experiences, and passions, and together we weave those strengths into something far greater than the sum of its parts.
By connecting, planning, sharing, and collaborating, we create new opportunities, build lasting relationships, and multiply the good already happening around us.
Join the Community Service Network — because lasting change happens when a community leads together.

The Community Health Advocacy Program (CHAP) is a community-led, relationship-based initiative located within our Community Resource Center. Together, we work to promote health equity, education, and access to care for individuals and families — especially women and children — throughout our community; and beyond.
CHAP helps bridge the gap between formal healthcare systems and the real-life experiences of our community, ensuring that everyone has a voice and a path toward better health.
Our Mission:
To walk alongside our neighbors as they navigate the often complex healthcare landscape; offering support, guidance, and connection while building the knowledge and confidence that lead to healthier families and stronger communities.
Through our partnership with Methodist Healthcare Ministries, we’re expanding access to free healthcare and educational opportunities; empowering our neighbors to care for themselves, their families, and one another.
Please check our calendar for upcoming events!

We’re building strong connections among local organizations, clinics, providers, and neighbors through collaboration so that everyone in our community has access to the care they need.
Together, we’re working to reduce financial and logistical barriers, ensuring that access to healthcare becomes a shared community achievement rather than an individual struggle.
We’ll soon be offering primary care services each Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at our Community Resource Center, made possible through our ongoing collaborations with local healthcare partners.
Through our collaboration with Bridging Whole Health, Injury2Wellness Clinics, and other valued partners, we’re working to bring accessible, community-centered healthcare to the southwest side of San Antonio through the creation of a new Community Health Center.
Additionally, we are building a community-driven healthcare clearinghouse: a collaborative space where local providers share free or affordable services, and neighbors can easily find the care they need without financial barriers.
These efforts bring together clinics, practitioners, and community organizations, all working side by side to make quality healthcare accessible for everyone.
You can also find additional local healthcare options HERE and/or in our Community Resource Directory.
If you’d like to learn more or get involved, visit our Community Resource Center any Tuesday between
8 AM and 1 PM.
Together with our community partners, we connect women, mothers, and children with a wide array of resources and opportunities that support health, growth, and well-being.
Our approach centers on relationships, recognizing the strengths each family brings and building on those assets to help our community thrive. We build connections for things like:
Diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, and feminine hygiene products. AWC Centers provides onsite first trimester sonograms, pregnancy testing, pregnancy counseling, and STI testing. WIC is on site the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month to sign up young families for benefits or recharge cards for those that already have one. Onsite mammograms are offered regularly through Christus Santa Rosa and Methodist Healthcare Minstries.
We work with our neighbors to connect them to resources for: the Childcare Voucher Program, CHIP, Free Car Seats, Children’s Dental Program, Healthy Start, Head Start, reproductive health resources, Urgent Maternal Warning Signs, a variety of programs for disadvantaged youth, Dress for Success, For Her, family violence resources, case management, and so much more:
Abuse and Domestic Violence Info, Magdalena House, Family Violence Prevention Center and Shelter, Rape Crisis Center, Family Services, Reproductive health for immigrant women, San Antonio Pregnancy Care Center, SA Birth Doulas, One by One Ministries, Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood, Breast Feeding Resources, The Breast Pump Depot, Texas Diaper Bank, MCH Family Outreach, SA Hope Center, Family Strengthening Program, Any Baby Can
Visit us each Tuesday from 8am to 1pm - or find these resources and more HERE on our website.

Through our partnership with the Texas Diaper Bank, we work alongside our neighbors to ensure families have access to essential items like diapers and feminine hygiene products.
These resources are available in our Community Resource Center every Tuesday from 9:30 AM to Noon.
With the support of community partners, volunteers, and families themselves, we’ve expanded diaper distribution to five sites across the city—reflecting what’s possible when our community comes together to care for one another.

Our Community Clothing Pantry is a shared space where neighbors help neighbors by circulating gently used and new clothing for all ages.
You’ll find a variety of items—pants, shirts, sweaters, coats, dresses, socks, and shoes—for men, women, and children. Depending on availability, families are welcome to select 5–10 articles of clothing each month.
This pantry exists through the generosity and participation of our community. If you have clothing in good condition that could serve another family, we invite you to drop it off during our hours of operation.
Every contribution helps strengthen the circle of care that keeps our community thriving.
Hours: Every Tuesday, 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM
At West Avenue Compassion, everyone has something valuable to contribute. We welcome neighbors who want to share their time, skills, or experience in helping our community thrive. Together, we build stronger relationships, deepen our sense of community, and make a lasting impact—one neighbor at a time. Contact us today to learn how you can get involved.
As our economic world continues to change, many of our neighbors are seeking new opportunities to support their families and share their skills. At WAC, we’re working alongside our community to connect people with meaningful job opportunities and pathways to stability.

We invite neighbors to come together and grow food, friendships, and community. Each participant is provided a 4x8 plot to plant and tend their own garden. It’s a place to share knowledge, swap seeds, and celebrate the abundance we create together. Grow for your family, grow with your friends, and grow as a community — what could be better?

The WAC Community Swap Meet
When times are challenging, creativity and community become our greatest resources. At WAC, we’re dedicated to helping neighbors connect, share, and support one another in practical, meaningful ways.
That’s why we’re excited to host a weekly Community Swap Meet right in our front parking lot: an open space where everyone can give and receive freely. Bring items you no longer need, share them with others, and discover something new that might be useful to you.
It’s completely free, simple, and a wonderful way to build relationships and strengthen the bonds that make our community thrive.
Let’s lift one another up—one swap at a time.
Every Saturday afternoon from 12pm until 5pm. (weather permitting)
