The choice food pantry allows our clients seeking food assistance to choose for themselves what products they receive. This service is by appointment only. Sign up is the last Tuesday of every month from 11:00-1:00pm. Please understand it fills up weeks in advance and may require being on a waiting list.

West Avenue Compassion provides the opportunity for individuals ages 60 and over to participate in two food distributions each month. On the 1st Thursday of each month at 10:00am, seniors that qualify can receive Project Hope and Commodities.

The classes range from nutritional basics to specific chronic diseases like Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease. In partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank, West Avenue Compassion offers Social Services Referrals. Through the application process, clients can take advantage of working with the SA Food Bank over the phone to qualify for governmental assistant programs such as SNAP, TANF/AFDC, CHIP, etc.

West Avenue Compassion’s Community Garden was created to educate clients in gardening and producing healthy fruits and vegetables that are many times to expensive through the grocery stores. Through the Community Garden, 10 families have the opportunity to plant, harvest and care for four 4X4 boxes. Educational classes are conducted eac
West Avenue Compassion’s Community Garden was created to educate clients in gardening and producing healthy fruits and vegetables that are many times to expensive through the grocery stores. Through the Community Garden, 10 families have the opportunity to plant, harvest and care for four 4X4 boxes. Educational classes are conducted each month to provide instructional assistance on the processes and how-to’s of taking care of a garden. The clients care for their box for the spring and fall planting seasons.

Girl Scout Troop 300, Muñoz & Company and Vaughn Construction teamed up with in collaboration with WAC to build and offer the Free Little Library to its community. All books are donated and free of charge to take or bring back when finished reading. We are often in need of adult and youth books, please contact us if you have books you’d like to donate!
